about

Filmonics is Martin Davies and Marco Thomas. Their roots can be traced back as far as the 80s; Marco was a former member of cult indie favourites ‘Felt’, who were led by their enigmatic front man, Lawrence.

‘Felt’ released ten albums in ten years on Creation Records and after their split in 1990, three of the ex-Felters, Marco, Gary Ainge and Martin Duffy (Now of Primal Scream) formed the instrumental trio ‘Fly’. Martin Davies was later asked to join the band after being spotted playing Keyboards at a gig in Ronnie Scott’s. In 2002, Fly released their debut album ‘Put the Needle Down and Fly’ on Madrid based indie label, Elefant. The album drew on many influences, which included some of the classic 70s Krautrock bands, like Neu! and Tangerine Dream.

Fast forward to 2013 and Marco and Martin again joined forces, this time their aim was to create a more expansive sound, a sound with cinematic qualities, they didn’t set out to merely parody the likes of Vangelis and Morricone et al, but, in similar fashion, fuse cinematic ideas with strong melodies. The result is Filmonics.
